Description: Caregiver stress is increasingly recognized as a social consequence of serious medical illness. It is part of the disease and its devastation. Whether it is Alzheimer’s type dementia, HIV, mental illness, cancer, or heart disease, the demands of caring can be alternately manageable and overwhelming. According to experts, caregivers are at increased risk for anemia, arthritis, ulcers, heart trouble and diabetes. On the emotional front, caregivers struggle with guilt, embarrassment, helplessness, and anger -- typically thought to be unspeakable feelings.
This group will provide opportunities for both peer-based and experiential learning [role plays and relaxation techniques]. In a safe environment, you will be able to share and explore your concerns with a group of like-minded individuals. You will also learn coping strategies so that you can navigate difficult situations with a minimum of stress.
